A B-Vent Cap should be used on all installations to prevent back drafts and to keep out rain and debris. The vent must extend through a flashing, and should terminate with the lowest discharge opening no closer to the roof than the minimum height shown in the table below. These minimum heights may be used provided the vent is not less than 8” from any vertical wall. For installations not covered in the table, the lowest discharge opening of the vent cap should be at least 2 ft. above the highest point where it passes through the roof, and at least 2 ft. higher than any portion of a building within 10” horizontally. All gas vents extending above the roof more than 5 feet must be securely guyed and braced.

It is easy... 4” single wall smoke pipe will connect to the flue collar on the furnace. A piece of single wall pipe could be used and then the single wall pipe could be connected to Type B vent. Or a Type B vent “draft hood connector” matching the flue size of the furnace can be used. Without using the draft hood connector, the outer diameter of the “B” vent will not fit down into the pre-cut opening in the top/side of the furnace. The “draft hood connector” is basically a piece of double wall “B” vent pipe with the last 3” of outer wall removed from the inlet end of the pipe. This exposed, 3” length of single wall slips down over the flue collar, and inside the pre-cut opening, to make a nice neat fit to “B” vent.
R.E. Michel Company carries “draft hood connectors” for type “B” and type “L” vent, which can be found in this section of our catalog.
