Similar in design and application to the “HBXB-HW” models shown on the previous page, the Aqua- Therm “HBQB” fan/coil units feature an integral circulator/control module, factory installed and pre- wired. This feature makes the Aqua-Therm unit even more compact and greatly reduces installation time. This “Combo”air handler converts a properly sized gas or oil-fired water heater into a highly efficient space-heating appliance that can heat your home as well as provide domestic hot water. Compared to other heating systems, combo heaters offer high efficiency, greater installation flexibility, cost less to install and are much easier to service. The “HBQB” units are available in capacities up to 5 nominal tons cooling, and can accommodate heating capacities up to 143,000 BTUH, which means that the Aqua-Therm system can be applied to larger homes.The new HBQB Series water heater air handler incorporates a multi- function microprocessor that not only reduces the number of components but adds a number of standard system functions such as an automatic pump timer, blower delays, and a compressor short-cycle timer. Each air handler includes a high efficiency cooling coil, a separate hot water coil, horizontal drain pan, microprocessor and a 24V transformer.

Note: Use of third party (First Company) air handlers with outdoor units will not allow registration upgrades from the standard manufacturers warranty on the outdoor unit.

HOW MANY AIR CHANGES ARE RECOMMENDED?

ASHRAE Standard 62 - 2001 spells it out in simple terminology which you may use as a guide when trying to determine resi- dential ventilation requirements.

a. 3.5 air changes per hour but not less than 15 CFM per person for living areas. b. 50 cfm intermittent or 20 cfm continous capacity for bathrooms c. 100 cfm intermittent or 25 cfm continous capacity for kitchens.

For other applications, the following may be helpful:

a. Churches - minimum 8 air changes/hr or 20 cfm/person b. Classrooms - minimum 25-30 cfm per person c. Offices - minimum 4 air changes/hr. d. Restaurants - mimimum 8-12 air changes/hr.
