Today, all water heaters (Power Vent, Atmospheric Vent, Direct Vent, Power Direct Vent) under 75,000 BTU/hr are manufactured for sale and use in the United States must include new features and components that resist ignition of flammable vapors that may accumulate outside of the water heater. These vapors can exist when gasoline or other flammable material are improperly stored or used in a location where the water heater is installed. While no technology is immune to improper installation, use or service, the Defender Safety System® by Bradford-White pro- vides class-leading features and advanced engineering. The heart of Bradford White’s Defender Safety System® is the patented ScreenLok® flame arrestor technology that is made of stainless steel and contains up to eighteen thousand geometrically oriented louvers to increase the veloc- ity of incoming air into the system. Flammable vapors entering the combustion chamber are effectively trapped preventing any flames from traveling backwards outside of the water heater.

A proven and reliable bimetallic resettable thermal switch prevents burner or pilot operation in case of on-going flammable va- por burn inside of the combustion chamber or restricted air flow caused by lint, dust and/or build-up. The proven burner design has been used for many years allowing off-the-shelf replacement if necessary. Rugged and durable pedestal base allows for easy transport and positioning, corrosion resistant contact with floor. Efficient and clean combustion on all models and sizes. The controlled combustion system offers added strength, lower noise and assures combustion air is directed through the Screen- Lok® Technology flame arrestor. The sight window offers a view into the combustion chamber to observe the operation of the pilot and burner. Limited warranties consist of 6 years on the tank and 6 years on parts, with optional 10 year upgrade available for most models. The Defender Safety System® from Bradford White has been engineered to be the safest, most reliable flam- mable vapor resistant system in the industry.

BRADFORD WHITE WARRANTY UPGRADE KITS

These warranties upgrade the 6 year warranted heaters to 10 year and can be used on any Bradford White heater listed. These warranty upgrades are not specific to an individual heater. This allows them to be pre-purchased and offered to the homeowner at time of install. There are two levels, depending on the model of the heater.
