Type Q EXPANSION VALVES
Sporlan Type Q valves are three component valves which can be assembled on site to meet the specific requirements of the job. Available in internal or external equalizer body styles with flare SAE or ODF solder connections. Simply select the body style most closely resembling the existing TXV, add the appropriate thermostatic ele- ment and cartridge. Applicable to nominal tonnages of 1/6 thru 5 depending upon components used. Remote bulb tubing length 5 ft.

SYSTEM SUBCOOLING
Subcooling is the heat removed from a refrigerant below its saturation point. (“Superheat” is heat added) Subcooling, like Superheat is another excellent overview reference for system operation diagnosis.
How do you determine the unit Subcooling? The tools re- quired are the same as those used for determining Superheat. A manifold gauge set, a temperature tester, and a pressure- temperature chart for the refrigerant in the system. Connect the manifold gauge hoses to the unit, vent the hoses and tighten them to the service ports. Open the service valves if required. Start the A/C unit and operate it for 10-15 minutes to allow the unit to reach normal operating conditions. Strap your tem- perature tester sensor, or thermometer to the liquid line leaving the condenser and insulate it from ambient temperature. Read the high side pressure and convert it to the corresponding saturation temperature per the temperature-pressure chart. To determine the subcooling, take the saturated temperature and subtract the measured liquid line temperature from your temperature tester.
Example: High side pressure = 260 psig converted to satura- tion temp = 120 F.
Minus measured liquid line temperature = 105° F Subcooling = 15° F
The correct subcooling is determined by the manufacture for each particular unit and will normally range from 12°F - 16°F. Excessive sub cooling (over 16 F) may be caused by non-con- densables (air), refrigerant overcharge, or restrictions.
