REFRIGERANT R-402A (HP80) Standard Replacement for CFC-502

R-402A is a near-azeotrope mixture of HFC-125, HCFC-22 and HC-290 for replacement of CFC-502 in ice machines and other low and medium temperature applications. This refrigerant pro- duces the lowest compressor discharge temperatures possible from this mixture of compounds, with no sacrifice in capacity or perfor- mance. Compatible with alkylbenzene and ester type lubricants. Boiling point: -56.5° F.

R-402B is a near-azeotrope, or three component mixture of HFC- 125, HC-290 and HCFC-22 which produces performance char- acteristics similar to CFC-502 in refrigeration systems operating at evaporator temperatures of -40 to 0° F. Refrigeration capacity of the system is increased about 4% and an increase of 10-20° in compressor discharge temperature is realized in a system retro- fitted from CFC-502 to R402B. R-402B is used as the original equipment refrigerant in Manitowac® ice machines, and is recommended by Manitowac for retrofit to CFC-502 equipment. Compatible with alkylbenzene and ester type lubricants. Boiling point: -53.2° F.

R-408A is an interim low-ozone-depleting replacement for medium and low temperature refrigeration systems which are currently us- ing R-502. R-408A is capable of being used with mineral oil, alkyl- benzene oil, or polyol ester lubricants. However, alkylbenzene and/ or polyol ester may be used alone or in combination with mineral oil to improve lubricant miscibility and return to the compressor.

REFRIGERANT R-409A

R-409A is an interim replacement for CFC-12 in low and medium temperature refrigeration systems.

Although R-409A is more tolerant of mineral oil, the mineral oil is less miscible with R-409A, than with CFC-12. To assure good oil return, the proper lubricant to use is an Alkylbenzene.
