COMFORTABLE HUMIDITY LEVELS

How much humidity is required? There isn’t a single answer to this question. The recommended amount of humidity required to maintain a comfort level in a home varies in direct proportion to the outdoor temperature. As the outdoor temperature lowers, the relative humidity recommendation lowers. The following chart indicates the recommendations:

RECOMMENDED RELATIVE HUMIDITY 45 - 50% 40 - 45% 35 - 40% 30 - 35% 25 - 30%

Some people prefer higher or lower % than listings, but that is their personal preference.

Homes with tight construction and single pane windows should try to maintain RH on the low side of the recommended % to prevent condensation on the windows.

Many new humidifiers offer the option of “Smart” humidifier controls that account for the outdoor temperatures and adjust the indoor relative humidity accordingly.
