Rinnai’s drain down kit is for use in areas subject to freezing temperatures to protect the heat exchanger from a potential freeze and burst. The kit consists of a normally open solenoid, a normally closed solenoid, a vacuum breaker and circuit board. In the event of a power failure, the 3/4” solenoid closes (stopping the flow of water into the heater) and the 1/2” solenoid opens (allowing the water heater and associated piping to drain).
