TECH TIP WHY DO COMBUSTION TESTS?

Because the benefits of doing them far outway the time saved by not doing them.

Customer service: Ensure the equipment is functioning at peak performance. Save customers operational, and service, costs. Competitors may not test and this gives you a decided advantage. Documentation of the results can be presented to the end user, and records maintained. Reduced callbacks (Al- lows greater productivity per Service Tech)

Safety: A furnace that is not set up correctly can produce haz- ardous levels of CO or NOx. (Furnaces are not Plug-and-Play equipment) The only way to measure the potentially danger- ous levels of these gases, is with test instrumentation. CO at 99 PPM is hazardous. No one can “eyeball” 500 PPM of CO, much less 99 PPM.

Liability: “Eyeballing or guessing” system operation is a risky business in today’s litigious society. Any time a CO incident occurs, some of the first questions asked are: how the suspect system was serviced and tested; who serviced the equipment; and what the results were. Todays instruments have print capability to document set up, test and operational results.

Equipment longevity & Warranty coverage: Normal main- tenance and service is absolutely required to ensure equipment operational longevity. Lack of combustion/burner/blower set up will cause premature equipment failure. Manufacturers warranty statements specifically disclaim failure due to lack of normal maintenance.
