Refrigerant R-22 is the standard refrigerant for residential air conditioning systems, and an eco- nomical upgrade/retrofit alternative for high and medium temperature refrigeration applications. R-404A is a near ozeotropic blend of R-125, R-143a and R-134a refrigerants. R-404A is a non-ozone depleting replacement most closely matched to the properties of CFC-502 refrigerant. In either new or retrofit applications, capacities and operating efficiencies are virtually identical to CFC-502; compressor discharge temperatures are only slightly higher (up to 14° F). For environmentally safe retrofit applications, the HFC and HCFC refrigerants are compatible with most refrigeration system components in current use (compressors, driers, expansion valves, etc.), and produce operating characteristics and capacities similar to CFC-12 and CFC-502 refrigerants. In most applications only a change in the type of lubricating oil and the installation of a new filter-drier are all that is required to convert a CFC-12 or CFC- 502 system to the more environmentally acceptable HCFC-based refrigerant.

REFRIGERANT R-134A (HFC-134A)

Ethane, 1, 1, 1, 2-Tetrafluoro; Boiling point: -14.9° F. HFC-134a is the zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) replacement for CFC-12. Now the industry standard refrigerant for new medium temperature equipment such as dairy cases, air conditioners and chillers, as well as automotive air conditioners. Compatible with polyol ester lubricants only.
