3. Mooring is to be picked up on the windward side, just forward of the shroud. 3.
4. Helm and crew agree on an escape plan. If the approach is too fast, or the buoy is not going to be reached, bear away in good time, reassess, reposition and make another attempt.
5. Using the plan from above, helm begins the approach from downwind/tide of the buoy (upwind approach).
6. Helm controls the speed of approach by sheeting the mainsail in and out (‘fill and spill’) and through direction (close reach). 6. 7. Helm takes into account the ‘drift’ encountered when depowering. 7. 8. Crew prepares to pick up the mooring. 8. 9. Helm and crew communicate throughout. 9.
10. At two–three boat lengths from the buoy, crew releases the jib completely (flapping jib provides a wind indicator). 10.
Manoeuvre: 操作:
11. Helm continues the approach, controlling the speed. 11. 12. At one boat length from the buoy, helm luffs to slow dinghy to a standstill. 12.
13. Helm stops the dinghy with the buoy beside the windward shroud, in the ‘lie-to’ position. Crew picks up buoy (forward of the shroud) and secures to it (round turn & two half hitches). Centreboard is raised.
