• KISS – Keep it short and simple • Kiss
• Is it a success? Instructors should test their students to see whether their session plan has translated into effective learning
• Time to learn – Instructors should make sure that their session is manageable. Don’t try to cram too much into a session as students can only absorb a certain amount of information. Allow sufficient time in the session plan for the students to practise
• Learning styles – people learn in different ways, so remember it’s essential to include different methods of putting something across. For further information on learning styles see here.
• Breaking down a skill into components will aid progression as it allows you to concentrate on a specific element as an example:
• Whole-Part-Whole (work on the whole skill, then a specific part, before bringing the whole skill back together)
• Part-Part-Whole (work on two specific but different parts of a skill and then bring it back together at the end of the exercise)
An example:
1. Part – Run an exercise concentrating on the specific footwork. 1. 2. Part – Run an exercise concentrating specifically on vision when going through the tack.
