In addition to a clear brief, ‘good communication’ in general is key from the moment you greet your students, through controlling the group during sessions afloat, to presenting the final debriefs at the end of the course. Most complaints occur due to a lack of communication, but communicating clearly also assists the understanding of expectations on all parts.
Choosing a sailing area that is appropriate to the group’s ability and the task ahead is crucial, but remember to discuss your plans with your Senior Instructor and other Instructors at the centre.
