Through greater understanding and appreciation, there are many adaptations we can make in our training centres to create a better environment for everyone, ensuring inclusivity for those with learning conditions.
Some individuals who have been diagnosed with a learning condition may have a support network in place. By asking about and understanding an individual’s likes and dislikes, as well as gaining an appreciation of the support network and strategies in place, an RYA Instructor and Recognised Training Centre will be able to provide a more effective learning environment. The centre can ensure that appropriate adaptations are in place and that all instructors are appropriately trained and briefed.
• Consider asking about learning conditions as part of the booking process to widen the understanding you have of the students on courses. This will enable you to prepare more effectively, and also appreciate any additional needs an individual may have
