Recoil is a free news satire and entertainment magazine published monthly in West Michigan since 2001, founded by the husband-wife publishing team of Cliff and Kimberly Frantz. Cliff Frantz writes the satire section, oversees publishing and has a credit score approaching 400.


Kimberly Frantz contributes original crosswords, writes book reviews and blogs about literacy, language and prose at midnightrite.blogspot.com. Matt Schilstra helped develop recoilmag.com’s platform, writes proprietary soſtware and keeps enough Adderall on his desk to power an entire hockey team through the Stanley Cup. Eric Mitts directs and edits Recoil magazine’s entertainment section, conducts exclusive interviews with national recording artists and has been the foundation of Recoil’s entertainment coverage for more than a decade – all while only having been


seen in person three times. Benjamin Hunter acts as Recoil’s print ad salesman, promotions director, cultural advisor and main mischief-maker. Andrew Watson aided Recoil’s inception in 2001; his keen music taste and deſt writing have been keeping Recoil readers steeped in good music since day one – and good luck finding a better writer or friend. Ira Andrew Briggs keeps our computers from exploding too oſten and provides enough muscle and beard for the entire Recoil team. Shi Briggs does graphic design, branding and 3 a.m. Meijer runs. Ira Tomas Briggs does proofreading, contributes comedy and forges handmade weapons for Recoil’s entire readership. Reverend Charles Preston Smith contributes


ideas and ideologies, handles print delivery and performs marriages. Dick Bill drinks beer. Chris Frantz put up his house as collateral to secure Recoil’s initial funding (he either really loves his brother or has a fucking rock in his head – or, we suspect, both); he contributes satire ideas, constructs photo props and administers unspeakable acts of raccoon justice.
