In the heart of the Vendée, this site is located on the road to Aizenay, 3.7 miles/ 6km from the picturesque harbour town of St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, where you will find the Grande Plage, frequent local markets and a wide choice of excellent restaurants.

Camping Europa is in two parts with an extension mainly for statics, served by its own toilet block. The original 172 pitches are interestingly laid out, level and clearly defined with touring pitches amongst more static caravans. Trees and shrubs give some privacy. The sanitary blocks have mostly continental toilets with a few standard WCs, which may be stretched in high season. The Mayer family run the site and organise evening entertainment in high season, with live music and discos in the bar area. The pool complex with whirlpool, waterfall and covered section has proved popular. Whilst the site is extremely busy early July/end of August, members report that it is very quiet at other times.

EXTRA COMMENT Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Dogs in category 1 are not permitted. Please see pages 10 & 11 for further details.

The site is situated about 4 miles/6.4km north of St Hilaire-de-Riez and is only a short drive from the 20 miles/32km of fine sandy beaches and pine forests, a main attraction of the area. The small harbour town of St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, with its seafood restaurants, is an interesting trip, and for days out Nantes and La Rochelle are worth visiting. This site is an excellent base for visiting the Vendée.

La Puerta del Sol offers good quality facilities, and while most of the grassy pitches are average in size, large outfits may have difficulties as some of the pitches are an odd shape. There are three large toilet blocks which are kept very clean. The site provides entertainment in high season and details of local activities, market days and excursions to Puy du Fou, the Ile de Ré and the Ile de Yeu. This site is suitable for couples and families with young children. There is a large static presence.

EXTRA COMMENT Maximum 1 dog permitted per pitch. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Dogs in category 1 not permitted. Please see pages 10 & 11 for further details.
