ADVICE & INFORMATION

Even though we have now received what we think is the definitive answer, we are not in a position to guarantee that Club members will not encounter problems if they travel in France without displaying the speed stickers, if the French Ministry of Transport have struggled to confirm the correct information, it is likely that the French Police may also be unsure of the correct law.

The feedback that we have received so far indicates that no-one (including the French) are complying with the speed sticker requirement, and we are not aware of anyone being fined for non-compliance.

If you feel that you wish to attach the stickers they can be purchased from www.speedstickers.co.uk telephone: 0800 988 7329 (10:00-14:00)

* Motorhomes without a trailer. If the motorhome has a trailer then the speed limit will be based on the gross train mass. ** In adverse weather conditions or rain these limits reduce to 110/100/80.

SPAIN – OUTFITS OVER 12 METRES Any car/caravan combination or motorhome over 12m in length is required to fit marker board to the back of the vehicle.

The marker boards which have a yellow centre and red border must be manufactured to ECE70 standards and be made of aluminium. You can have two boards measuring 565mm x 200mm or one large board measuring 1130mm x 200mm. The boards must be placed between 50cm and 150cm off the ground (the smaller boards may be attached horizontally or vertically).

Marker boards can be purchased from most HGV suppliers, including HGV Direct www.hgvdirect.co.uk telephone: 0845 686 0008. Please ensure that any marker boards you purchase have ECE70 stamped on them. Further information can be found on our website www.caravanclub.co.uk (practical advice/overseas advice).

MOTORWAY TOLLS AND VIGNETTES In Croatia, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain motorways are paid “as used”. Toll prices can be obtained by doing a route plan on www.viamichelin.co.uk if you click on the “more options” button and put a tick in the box next to car/caravan the route planner will work out your tolls costs. (Ticking the car/caravan will also work out the costs for a motorhome).

Furthermore, from October 2010 some toll free motorways in the North and Centre of Portugal will be changing to a system of electronic toll collection. At the time of going to print confirmed details are not available, for further details of the current situation please refer to The Club magazine or website www.caravanclub.co.uk.
