Situated in a peaceful location near the village of Agarn and surrounded by majestic mountains, this site has easy access from the A9 motorway from Montreux via the Sierre to Brig road. The area is known to enjoy relatively high levels of sunshine and less rain than most areas of Switzerland.
An ideal base for mountain walking and exploring the Valais region, Camping Gemmi is a small, friendly site. The resident proprietors are proud of the beauty of the area and happy to recommend local walks and excursions, although written material will probably be in German. The grassy pitches vary in size. There are seven private bathrooms available for hire on a weekly basis (payable locally) and a shop in reception selling fresh bread and basic provisions. Some local specialities and snacks are served in the bar/restaurant.
EXTRA COMMENT Access may be difficult for large outfits. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.

One of the more unusual tourist attractions in the Solothurn area is a visit to the local stork colony. If you feel like going up in the air yourself, try the chairlift up to the top of Weissenstein in the Jura mountains. A little more down to earth is the beautiful Baroque Swiss town of Solothurn itself, where the Old Town is considered to be one of the finest in Switzerland. Cultural events take place throughout the year, including the classic open air concerts and its renowned film and literature days. Boulevard cafes line the pavements when the weather permits or if you have rather more energy, there are over 350 miles/563km of hiking trails in the region.
Lido Solothurn is a neat and tidy Touring Club Suisse campsite, situated between the banks of the River Aare and the adjacent green meadows. It is a good base for exploring the area by foot, bicycle or a boat trip. There is good access to the pitches, which are marked out by numbers, and the 2 modern sanitary blocks are cleaned to a high standard. A children’s club and evening entertainment are organised in the high season.
EXTRA COMMENT Maximum 2 dogs per pitch. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
