DAY 1 UK to Istanbul Fly to Istanbul, where you’ll stay for three nights. Get to know your fellow travellers over a drink and dinner. SAPPHIRE HOTEL, ISTANBUL (4-STAR)
DAY 2 Istanbul
Half in Asia and half in Europe, Istanbul is a fascinating blend of east and west. We take an included tour today beginning at the cultural heart of the Old City – Sultanahmet Square – flanked by the ancient Hippodrome, the magnificent Blue Mosque with its precious Iznik tiles, and the wonderful Topkapi Palace where we’ll admire the grandeur with which the Ottoman sultans once surrounded themselves. Lunch will be served in a typically Turkish restaurant before we head to the Roman underground cistern
– a marvel of engineering that once supplied the Topkapi Palace with water and the locals with fresh fish. We’ll end the tour today at the Grand Bazaar where you can barter for goods. SAPPHIRE HOTEL, ISTANBUL (4-STAR)
DAY 3 Istanbul Explore at your own pace today, or join our optional full-day excursion which includes Hagia Sophia, the Golden Horn and a ferry ride along the Bosphorus. We’ll start at the imposing Hagia Sophia, the largest church in Christendom for almost a full millennium and a mosque for more than 500 years. We follow the city walls along the Golden Horn to the Monastery of Chora. The Eyup Sultan Mosque is another spectacular sight. We break for a traditional meal

in a restaurant close to the Egyptian Spice Bazaar. We then board a ferry for a journey along the Bosphorus, which offers yet another perspective on this hugely intriguing city. SAPPHIRE HOTEL, ISTANBUL (4-STAR)
DAY 4 Gallipoli & Canakkale Today our journey takes us along the Gallipoli Peninsula, the site of an abortive Allied assault on Turkish forces during World War I. We’ll stop to pay our respects at the memorials to the fallen soldiers, a moving tribute to the many thousands of Australian, New Zealand and British servicemen who lost their lives. Crossing the Dardanelles, our journey comes to an end in Canakkale. KOLIN HOTEL, CANAKKALE (5-STAR)
DAY 5 Troy & Yesilyurt Our journey continues south along the Aegean coast, where we will visit Troy, one of the most iconic sites in ancient history. We then head to the village of Yesilyurt for a cup of traditional coffee and to see gozleme pastries being made before sampling the results. GRAND HOTEL TEMIZEL, AYVALIK (4-STAR)
DAY 6 Pergamon & Kusadasi The ancient city of Pergamon is bursting with spectacular sights - the Acropolis, the setting for a spectacular theatre, the famous library and huge altar of Zeus. Asclepion is one of the ancient world’s most renowned healing centres. Set amongst green hills, the stark white of the remains create a lasting impression. TUSAN BEACH HOTEL, KUSADASI (5-STAR)
DAY 7 Ephesus, The Temple of Artemis & Sirince Ephesus offers an astonishingly well-preserved glimpse into ancient life. Here you will see the Great Theatre, the Marble Street, the exquisite façade of the Library of Celsus, St John Basilica and the Temple of Artemis. This afternoon we head to Sirince, a lively village where you’ll find shops overflowing with local produce and handicrafts. Why not relax with a glass of the delicious local wine in a café. DAY 8 Izmir to UK Return flight to the UK.
