DAY 1 UK to Barcelona Depart on your scheduled flight to Barcelona today. On arrival, transfer to the seaside resort of Calella on Catalonia’s Costa Maresme. Your hotel boasts a lovely position close to the beach so it’s the perfect base for a relaxing holiday.
DAY 2 Monastery of Montserrat Today join your Tour Manager on an included excursion to the cliff-side Monastery of Montserrat, which dates back to 1844. At the monastery’s heart is the statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, carved in the 12th century and also known as the Black Madonna. This sacred place is also home to
the famous Montserrat Boys’ Choir which, subject to timings, we may hear perform during our visit.
DAY 3 Barcelona Just a short distance from our base in Calella is the vibrant city of Barcelona, which we’ll reach via a scenic drive along the Montjuic hill on today’s included excursion. After admiring beautiful views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea, we’ll have time at leisure to explore. The eccentric works of the architect Antoni Gaudí are not to be missed, particularly the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, which showcases his unique and distinctive style. The city is packed with fascinating museums,
Barcelona
traditional squares and a fantastic selection of shops. Be sure to take a stroll down the famous Las Ramblas – there is always something going on along this lively promenade – or perhaps stop at a pavement café to enjoy some tapas.
DAY 4 Figueres & Rosas During a day at leisure perhaps you’ll head to the golden-sand beach or discover more of the delightful resort of Calella, whose seafront is lined with inviting bars and cafés. Alternatively, you might choose to join our optional excursion to the town of Figueres – known as the home of Surrealist painter Salvador Dali – and the charming coastal resort of Rosas.
DAY 5 Coastline tour An included scenic drive along the spectacular Costa Brava coastline today gives you the chance to appreciate the beauty of this popular holiday retreat. Picturesque views of cliff-top villas and pine forests will have you reaching for your camera, and we’ll make a stop for a stroll along the way. Next, we head to the traditional Spanish seaside town of San Feliu de Guíxols with its bustling marina. There’s plenty of time for you to join your travelling companions for a seafood or tapas lunch, before we return to the hotel.
DAY 6 Gerona Today is free for you to spend as you wish. If you’d like to discover more of Catalonia, we offer an optional excursion to Gerona. Known as the ‘city of four rivers’, it boasts a historic centre packed with medieval buildings, cobbled streets and many museums.
DAY 7 Calella Enjoy a final day at leisure in Calella, exploring or simply relaxing on the beach. This evening, gather with your travelling companions for a farewell drink.
DAY 8 Barcelona to UK Today we’ll transfer to the airport for the flight back to the UK.
Please note: This holiday includes walking in areas of rough ground, gradients and steps, often with no hand rails to offer assistance.
