DAYS 8 & 9 Monteverde On day 8 we visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Set up in the 1950s by American Quakers, today it’s home to many species of birds and mammals. Lunch is included at a coffee farm, where you’ll learn all about the process of making coffee, en route to Monteverde. Here we’ll take a tour of the village followed by a talk from a descendent of the original Quaker settlers. Take an optional guided walk in the forest this evening. On the morning of day 9 we visit a nature reserve, to learn all about the cloud forest and its importance in the ecosystem. HOTEL FONDA VELA, MONTEVERDE (3-STAR)
DAY 10 Granada Today we journey along the Pan-American Highway and cross the border into Nicaragua, the largest country in Central America. Nicaragua has experienced a dramatic recent history, but is slowly opening up to tourism. In the late afternoon, we explore one of the traditional white villages that are characteristic of the
area. They also offer fabulous views over the volcanic Apoyo Lagoon. GRAN FRANCIA HOTEL, GRANADA (3-STAR)
DAYS 11 & 12 Granada/Masaya/ Managua Like the rest of Nicaragua, Granada is not on most tourist trails. We include a walking tour around the city which boasts a magnificent location on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. After visiting the Convento San Francisco Museum, take an optional horse-drawn carriage ride to the lake where you’ll enjoy a relaxing boat trip. Day 12 offers time to explore Granada at your own pace or to join our full-day pre-bookable optional excursion to Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, and Masaya Volcano National Park (subject to weather conditions). DAY 13 Jacó Today we’ll cross the border back into Costa Rica, driving to the coastal area of Jacó. CROC’S CASINO, JACÓ (3-STAR)

DAY 14 Carara National Park Our morning begins with an included visit to Carara National Park, a major centre for ecological research.
In the afternoon join an optional, tropical mangrove cruise along the Tarcoles River – this area is famous for having one of the world’s largest wild crocodile populations. Make sure you pre-book this excursion, as places are limited. CROC’S CASINO, JACÓ (3-STAR)
DAY 15 Manuel Antonio National Park Our destination today is Manuel Antonio National Park, on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
This beautiful reserve is home to monkeys, toucans and a host of other wonderful wildlife. Your Local Guide will be on hand to tell you more about the park. CROC’S CASINO, JACÓ (3-STAR)
DAYS 16 & 17 San José to UK Today we return to San José for our return flight to the UK via Houston, arriving on day 17.
