TOUR

Lazy Bear Lodge, Churchill

Beluga whale-watching Winnipeg Moose

ADD-ON

DAY 4 Churchill Summer is a great time to see wildlife in Churchill – more than 3,500 beluga whales gather annually near the estuary of the Churchill River, while polar bears are leaving the melted sea ice to hunt along the wildflower- carpeted shores of Hudson Bay. We’ll fly here today and transfer to the eco- friendly Lazy Bear Lodge, our base for four nights.

We include a culture and heritage tour of the town of Churchill, where we’ll see the Polar Bear Jail. This is where polar bears that stray too close to the town are humanely captured and ‘jailed’ until they can be safely released back into their own environment. We’ll also visit the Cape Merry National Historic Site, where we can view the remains of a defensive battery constructed to guard the river mouth.

This evening we’ll gather as a group for an included welcome meal. LAZY BEAR LODGE, CHURCHILL

DAY 5 Churchill The Prince of Wales Fort is a massive, partially-restored stone outpost that

dates backs to the 1700s, and where hundreds of beluga whales come to feed, mate and give birth in the warm, shallow, near-coastal waters. So keep your eyes peeled on our morning boat tour to view these friendly marine mammals.

This afternoon we’ll board an all-terrain tundra vehicle, designed to have a minimal impact on the environment whilst offering visitors the best way to explore the surrounding area and admire the wildlife. LAZY BEAR LODGE, CHURCHILL

DAY 6 Hudson Bay Hudson Bay is a great place to see polar bears, beluga whales and other Arctic wildlife and we’ll explore this area today. Our coastal explorer vessel, the Sam Hearne, will take us to some of the more remote and beautiful habitats in Western Hudson Bay, where we can walk on the tundra. We’ll see the magnificent polar bears in their lesser-known summer guise, lounging on the rocky shores and cooling off in the sea on the hot days of the brief northern summer. LAZY BEAR LODGE, CHURCHILL

DAY 7 Churchill Kayaking and snorkelling are both unforgettable ways to get up close to beluga whales, and you can do just this on our optional excursions today.

This evening, we’ll gather as a group to say farewell to Churchill over an included dinner. LAZY BEAR LODGE, CHURCHILL

DAY 8 Winnipeg The morning is yours to do as you please before an afternoon flight back to Winnipeg. INN AT THE FORKS, WINNIPEG

DAYS 9 & 10 Winnipeg to UK The Forks area of Winnipeg has a rich history and we’ll uncover it on a guided tour. We’ll also visit the new Canadian Museum of Human Rights and enjoy an included lunch in the French Quarter before our return flight to the UK, arriving on day 10.

Please note: We want you to get the most from your holiday with us please be advised this tour requires a good degree of physical fitness and is not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.
