Castro made plans for the Revolution and with that confirmed the building’s significance in history. We call at the museum this morning to discover more about the events that unfolded from here and the way they shaped Cuba.
Santiago de Cuba is a colourful and intriguing town. Take the afternoon to explore in the company of your fellow travellers. As you stroll through the town you’re bound to hear sultry salsa beats at every turn.
For a firsthand taste of the island’s melodic sounds we visit the popular Casa de la Trova, where locals sing and play to passionate rhythms. MELIA SANTIAGO, SANTIAGO DE CUBA
DAY 8 Camaguey The drive to the Camaguey area takes us through small villages and cattle farming regions.
En route we will pause at Bayamo for a look around and a visit the quaint church of ‘El Cobre’. COLON HOTEL, CAMAGUEY
DAYS 9 & 10 Trinidad The route to Trinidad takes us via the picturesque town of Sancti Spiritus, which we will explore on day 9.
From the cobbled streets to the pretty Plaza Mayor, Trinidad’s centre is lovely and compact. There is so much to discover in this UNESCO-listed city, and our tour will take in the main sights on the morning of day 10. BRISAS TRINIDAD, TRINIDAD
DAY 11 Trinidad & Cienfuegos The Botanical Gardens have been run by the government since 1961 and are one of the largest in Latin America, with over 2,000 different species of plants. We will spend time here before continuing to Cienfuegos for a short sightseeing tour. JAGUA HOTEL, CIENFUEGOS
DAY 12 Santa Clara Santa Clara, halfway between the north and south coasts, was a strategic site during the War of Independence and the Revolution. Join us on an optional
excursion to the city, where you will see Che Guevara’s Memorial and the Plaza de la Revolution. Alternatively, take time to explore more of Cienfuegos or simply enjoy the facilities at your hotel. JAGUA HOTEL, CIENFUEGOS
DAY 13 Viñales Valley & Pinar del Rio Travelling west we follow the inlet of coastline known as the Bay of Pigs until we reach Viñales Valley. This lush valley and the lovely city of Pinar del Rio offer lovely natural scenery and a gentle pace of life. LOS JASMINES HOTEL, VIÑALES VALLEY
DAYS 14-16 Havana to UK Las Terrazas is a small working community set in the Sierra del Rosario mountains. We’ll enjoy lunch here en route to Havana on day 14. This evening gather with your fellow travellers for a farewell drink and dinner. On day 15 we’ll transfer to the airport for our flight back to the UK, arriving on day 16. MEMORIES MIRAMAR, HAVANA
