DAY 4 Florence & Bolgheri • Wine tasting with homemade appetisers Celebrated as the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence is home to works by great masters including Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Botticelli. Built beside the River Arno, we’ll explore the city’s compact historic centre in the company of a Local Guide. Stroll across the Ponte Vecchio (old bridge), see the magnificent Duomo and admire glorious architecture among the Renaissance streets and piazzas before free time to enjoy lunch.


We’ll head next to Castello di Bolgheri, an estate known for its award-winning wines, four of which we will sample - three reds and one white. They will be served with bread, cheeses and wild boar sausages.


DAY 5 San Gimignano & Siena San Gimignano is one of the prettiest hilltop towns in Tuscany, with beautiful palaces and churches, ornate frescoes and a fine baptistery within its ancient walls. It’s also known as the ‘town of beautiful towers’ because of the impressive towers built here as status symbols by feuding families in medieval times.


Siena is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval cities in Europe. Its enchanting narrow streets lined with palaces and mansions lead to the spectacular Piazza del Campo, which is the setting each year for the colourful and intense Palio horse race. You can visit both towns on our optional excursion today.


DAY 6 Montespertoli & Volterra • Cookery lesson, wine tasting and sampling of local dishes The beautiful Castello Sonnino sits at the entrance to the hilltop town of Montespertoli, which is surrounded by picture-postcard views. It’s also where we’ll learn to prepare a typical Tuscan lunch. Our cookery class, along with a wine tasting, will take place in the ‘Enoteca’ (wine store). Recipes vary to make the most of seasonal ingredients but will typically include an appetizer of fried sage, cold meats and crostini with tomatoes and meatballs in a traditional sauce. We’ll enjoy the results for lunch. Our visit here also takes in the castle’s cellar, the place where vinsanto wine is made and olive oil is stored.


Located high above sea level, Volterra has a 3,000-year-old history and is


known for its alabaster, a translucent stone still used today by artisans who apply ancient techniques to produce beautiful artworks. We’ll stop here on the way back to our hotel. Passing through the 12th century city walls we’ll discover a town which retains much of its medieval character, though Roman, Renaissance and Etruscan legacies can also be found here.


DAY 7 Marina Di Cecina Our base, Marina di Cecina, is a lovely town and today we’ll spend a day at leisure here. Perhaps relax on the beach across the road from your hotel or head into the delightful centre where there are plenty of laid-back cafés in which to sample more Tuscan delicacies and watch the world go by.


DAY 8 Tuscany to UK We’ll take our return flight to the UK today.
