DAY 1 Holyhead to Dublin Take the ferry to Dublin Port. Kilbeggan is one of Ireland’s oldest whiskey distilleries, and we’ll head here by coach to enjoy a tour of the site where water, barley and yeast are turned into whiskey. The town of Westport is famous for its people, food, pubs and its live music. Traditional musicians from all over the country come to play here, and Matt Molloy, from the world-famous trad band The Chieftains, has a pub here. We’ll travel by coach through the Irish boglands to reach the town, which will be your home for the next three nights. Get to know your travelling companions over a welcome drink and dinner this evening. WESTPORT WOODS HOTEL, WESTPORT (4-STAR)
DAY 2 Achill Island Walk 12.5km/7.5mi - 3hrs
Achill is Ireland’s largest island, and one of the most far west places in the country. It’s where we head today for a three-hour walk along its sandy beaches and sea cliffs. We’ll visit the
Deserted Village at Slievemore, which consists of around 30 stone cottages along the slopes of the mountain. A whole community was forced to leave their homes here due to high rents over 150 years ago. We’ll also take in a megalithic tomb which is over 5,000 years old, covering about seven-and-a- half miles over the course of our walk. WESTPORT WOODS HOTEL, WESTPORT (4-STAR)
DAY 3 Connemara Walk 12.5km/7.5mi - 3hrs Connemara is a beautiful, unspoilt region of Ireland with rugged mountains and stunning golden beaches. We’ll head here today on our three-hour walk, making a stop at Killary Harbour, a spectacular fjord boasting some of the country’s most striking scenery. Next we’ll reach Kylemore Abbey, a magnificent neo- gothic castle set in the Connemara mountains, built by a wealthy businessman for his wife. It’s now owned and run by nuns, and was also a
boarding school for many years. Today we’ll cover nearly seven-and-a-half miles. WESTPORT WOODS HOTEL, WESTPORT (4-STAR)
DAY 4 Galway City, Burren National Park & Cliffs of Moher Walk 16km/10mi - 4.5hrs
Galway is a world-famous bohemian city. Known for its great nightlife and friendly people, it is home to artists and musicians from all over the world. We’ll head here today, walking its meandering streets while our guide tells tales of the city’s intriguing history. The Burren is famous for its distinctive limestone landscapes and diverse wildlife, and we visit this unique region next. We’ll wander through barren landscapes where wild donkeys, goats and cattle roam free, and we’ll admire plants that would normally grow only in tundra or Arctic regions, including orchids and gentian blues. This eight- mile walk will take approximately three-and-a-half hours.
Later, we’ll enjoy a gentle hour-long walk along the Cliffs of Moher, rugged cliffs that rise from the Atlantic, boasting some of Ireland’s most impressive vistas. On a clear day, you can gaze across to the Aran Islands, Galway Bay and Connemara. It’s a great chance to take in one last spectacular view of Ireland before we head home tomorrow. We’ll cover about two miles on this walk. We continue to our overnight hotel where we have dinner this evening with a farewell drink.
