DAY 1 UK/Madrid Today we’ll fly to Madrid and transfer to Toledo on arrival. After time to freshen up your Tour Manger will introduce you to the local area on a short orientation walk.
This evening we’ll get to know one another better when we head to a restaurant for our welcome dinner. HOTEL CARLOS V, TOLEDO (3-STAR)
DAY 2 Toledo From its lofty position on a rocky headland, UNESCO-listed Toledo overlooks the Río Tajo. Known as the ‘city of three cultures’, Christians, Muslims and Jews have lived here harmoniously for centuries. Its historic centre contains a fine array of churches, mosques and synagogues.
This morning’s guided walking tour of this splendid city will introduce us
to its many fascinating highlights and we’ll also visit a workshop to learn about Toledo steel, a prestigious and flexible metal used in sword-making for hundreds of years. You are free to explore further at your own pace this afternoon. Perhaps you’ll enjoy lunch with your travelling companions before taking a stroll along the banks of the river, or maybe you’ll visit the El Greco Museum. DAY 3 Aranjuez & Chinchón Our tour continues with a short drive from Toledo to Aranjuez, a green oasis located at the meeting point of the Tajo and Jarama Rivers. Here we’ll visit the spectacular Royal Palace. The building of this lavish royal residence began

OPTIONAL EXCURSION • The Royal Palace of Madrid
Toledo
in the 16th century during the reign of King Phillip II. It was reconstructed and added to over the years and today the palace is renowned for its splendid gardens and beautiful white and red façade.
Later we’ll arrive in Chinchón, a traditional Spanish town with a 15th century square – Plaza Mayor – at its heart. We’ll enjoy an included tapas lunch here before continuing on to Madrid. A panoramic sightseeing tour by coach will introduce us to Spain’s capital, before we check in to our hotel for a two-night stay.
HOTEL MAYORAZGO OR HOTEL GANIVET, MADRID (3-STAR) DAY 4 Madrid
This morning’s guided walking tour of Madrid will take us to many of the city’s highlights. We’ll see the bustling Plaza de la Puerta del Sol and visit Plaza Mayor, the vast central square lined by grand balconied buildings. We’ll stroll past the Plaza de Santa Ana, once a meeting place for intellectuals, writers and artists, and end our tour at the Prado Museum. One of the world’s most prestigious museums, it is home to an exquisite collection of art and contains works by Spanish Masters, Goya, Velázquez and Murillo, as well as some revered international pieces. We have left this afternoon free for you to step inside the museum if you wish.
Alternatively, you could choose to join our optional afternoon excursion to the Royal Palace. This impressive neoclassical building is the official residence of the Spanish royal family, but they use it only occasionally. It contains around 3,000 rooms and many fine works of art.
This evening we’ll gather as a group and enjoy a farewell dinner in a nearby restaurant.

DAY 5 Madrid/UK Today we’ll fly back to the UK.
