DAY 5 Cocora Valley Join your Tour Manager and Local Guide on our included excursion today, which begins in the Cocora Valley, located high in the Andean mountains and part of the Los Nevados National Park. During our walk we’ll see Colombia’s national tree, the Quindian wax palm, which can grow up to a height of 60 metres, and look out for many species of bird, including hummingbirds and the endangered orejíamarillo or palm parrot.

We’ll cross the River Quindio, where we’ll see more gigantic wax palms and learn how the indigenous people worshipped this tree, before stopping for lunch at a trout farm.

In the afternoon we’ll head to the traditional town of Salento for lovely views of the valley, then on to the village of Filandia, where you can enjoy more great vistas from its viewing tower or head to the main square to enjoy a coffee in one of the friendly cafés. Our visit to this UNESCO- listed region takes us to a coffee hacienda to learn about its production, from growing and harvesting the beans

to brewing the perfect pot. We’ll take a tour of the estate’s grounds and even watch the coffee bean-pickers at work.

Today we also offer an optional excursion to Termales de Santa Rosa de Cabal, natural thermal pools surrounded by mountains and waterfalls. HOTEL MOVICH PEREIRA, PEREIRA (4-STAR)

We’ll admire the San Felipe Fortress, built to defend the city from pirate attacks, and explore the UNESCO-listed old town, surrounded by grand walls and home to magnificent examples of Spanish colonial architecture. Our final stop will be at the handicrafts zone of the Bovedas – archways built into the city walls originally to house armaments and later a prison – where you can shop for unique souvenirs of your holiday.
