DAY 5 Stellenbosch We’re heading through vineyard-clad valleys to Stellenbosch today, the heart of the Western Cape Winelands region. Find your way around the wine-making process during our tour, then discover your favourite tipple with a tasting. After this an afternoon at leisure might be just what’s needed!
PROTEA HOTEL STELLENBOSCH, STELLENBOSCH (3-STAR)
DAY 6 Oudtshoorn There’s a scenic drive to look forward to today via Route 62 to Oudtshoorn. An afternoon visit to an ostrich farm will give you the opportunity to admire and possibly hand-feed these curious- looking creatures. Keeping with the farming theme, our quirky hotel tonight is located in a farm-like setting with accommodation in thatched rondawels, a type of African-style hut. PROTEA HOTEL RIEMPE, OUDTSHOORN (3-STAR)
DAY 7 Knysna On our way to Knysna we’ll make a stop at the Cango Caves, where we’ll descend into an underground world of limestone caverns, stalactites and stalagmites sculptured by nature over millions of years. PROTEA KNYSNA QUAYS, KNYSNA (4-STAR)
DAY 8 Knysna After a leisurely start, our day picks up steam with a lagoon cruise to Featherbed Nature Reserve, an area of unspoilt beauty on South Africa’s Garden Route. We’ll drive up to the headland, stopping from time to time to enjoy the wonderful views, before taking lunch beneath the shade of ancient milkwood trees overlooking the lagoon.
Before heading back to Knysna a stroll through the forests to the ancient sea caves comes highly recommended. This evening compare notes on your holiday so far with your fellow travellers over dinner in a local restaurant. PROTEA KNYSNA QUAYS, KNYSNA (4-STAR)
DAY 9 Johannesburg We’ll fly to Johannesburg. We include a tour of nearby Soweto – the country’s most populous black urban residential area, which is infused with the history of the struggle against apartheid.
PROTEA HOTEL WANDERERS, JOHANNESBURG (4-STAR)
DAY 10 Kruger National Park The Panorama Route weaves its way through some of the most stunning scenery in South Africa – the rainforest at God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck potholes and Blyde Canyon to
name just a few. It’s also our route to Mpumalanga, the gateway to the iconic Kruger National Park. SABI RIVER SUN, KRUGER (3-STAR)
DAY 11 Kruger National Park Wake up to the incredible sounds of the African bush as you embark on a thrilling early-morning game drive in Kruger. The park is home to an enthralling array of wildlife, so hopefully you’ll tick off at least some, if not all, of the ‘Big Five’ – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo.
There’s time to relax by the pool with a refreshing drink this afternoon before we offer a further optional game drive. SABI RIVER SUN, KRUGER (3-STAR)
DAY 12 Kruger National Park There’s more time at leisure today but there are optional bush walks and game drives on offer if you want to see more of your thrilling surroundings and the resident wildlife. SABI RIVER SUN, KRUGER (3-STAR)
DAYS 13 & 14 Kruger to UK We head back to Johannesburg for our return flight to the UK, arriving on day 14. Alternatively, join our optional add- on tour to Victoria Falls.
Please note: To maximise your enjoyment of this holiday a certain amount of walking is essential.
