DAY 1 UK to St Petersburg Fly to St Petersburg today, transferring on arrival to the MS Rostropovich. During your cruise you’ll be invited to social occasions, including a cocktail party and a Russian tea ceremony. You’ll also experience a traditional bread and salt welcome ceremony.
DAY 2 St Petersburg We’ll discover St Petersburg on today’s coach tour, with famous sights including the Exchange, Palace Square,

The State Hermitage Museum is one of the biggest museums in the world, and entrance is included today. After this day of exploration, we’ll return to the ship as we begin our cruise of the Volga, the longest river in Europe.
DAY 3 Mandrogui Today the ship reaches the historic village of Mandrogui, where we’ll see homes crafted in gingerbread house-style woodwork. The village is also a showcase of traditional Russian life, and we will visit a craft centre to see demonstrations of wood carving, weaving and pottery. We also visit the Museum of Russian Vodka and enjoy a barbecue lunch. End the day in style with a gala concert on board the ship.
DAY 4 Kizhi Enjoy the ship’s facilities before we reach the island of Kizhi. Located on Lake Onega, this UNESCO-listed site is

one of the most scenic destinations on the Volga. The island is known for its wooden churches. Its centrepiece is the Church of the Transfiguration, which was built without the use of nails, and boasts 22 onion domes.
DAY 5 Goritsy We’ll step ashore today in Goritsy, perched on the edge of the White Lake. Highlights are the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. It is said that the parents of Ivan the Terrible prayed here for an heir before his birth.
We’ll also see the Goritsy Nunnery. Founded in 1544 by Princess Efrosiniya, the wife of one of Ivan the Terrible’s sons, it was eventually turned into the tsar’s personal harem after she was drowned when Ivan suspected her of treason.
DAY 6 Uglich Our next port of call is the town of Uglich, whose history is entwined with the suspicious death of Prince Dmitry. He headed here in an attempt to flee the reign of his father, Ivan the Terrible, but was found in the town square with his throat cut some years later. As the ship sails towards the town, make sure you’re on deck to see the Church of St Dmitry on the Blood and the Resurrection Monastery.
DAY 7 Moscow Our final port of call is Russia’s capital, Moscow, where we’ll discover iconic sights including Red Square and St Basil’s Cathedral. After lunch in a restaurant we’ll explore the Kremlin. We’ll also visit one of the magnificent cathedrals in Cathedral Square and see the huge Tsar Cannon. Back on board, we’ll gather for a farewell drink before dinner.
DAY 8 Moscow to UK We’ll disembark the ship and fly back to the UK today.

MS Rostropovich ★★★★★ The 5-star MS Rostropovich is one of the most luxurious ships to cruise Russian waterways and is the perfect vessel from which to discover the historic Volga River. Originally built in 1980, the ship, which accommodates just 212 guests, was refurbished in 2010 and features two restaurants, a choice of bars, movie theatre, gym, solarium, lifts and souvenir shop. Cabins have private facilities, TV, fridge, radio, telephone, hairdryer and safe, and most feature a private balcony.
