Beautiful skin via sustainable technology

Within the context of urban development, pollution poses a threat to health in all parts of the world. Some particles can be twenty times smaller than the pores of the skin and various types of pollution can affect the skin and interfere with its healthy balance. The skin is the largest organ in the human body and one of the most important barriers against pollution. To counteract the pollutant effects, Natura-Tec’s philosophy is to combine ingredient innovations with unique Bio ecological Sustainable Technology to propose solutions in compliance with industry, social, cultural and ethical criteria worldwide. Microalgae technology offers much more than a simple marketing effort in terms of real benefits to our industry and represents a contribution to the protection of our environment and of human beings.
Microalgae are the first link in the energy chain of the oceans. They ensure the functioning of major biological cycles and the maintenance of biodiversity on Earth. These organisms grow thanks to photosynthesis, and thanks to their internal metabolism they can produce naturally original and unique compounds which are highly beneficial for skin, hair, and our body in general. Modern patented technologies allow us to cultivate specific species and obtain high cosmetic value microalgae extracts to satisfy the formulators’ needs. Our efforts are focused on controlling the production environment to ensure consistent quality and purity combined with renewable, eco-friendly and ethical manufacturing technique. An important step in the production process is the use of green energy
produced by a closed-circuit waste recycling system where the resulting CO2
is
purified and used as an essential metabolic element to feed microalgae, ensuring the whole process has the lowest possible carbon footprint (Fig 1). This specificity made our greenhouse an advanced sustainable and energetically independent production unit. In addition, the carefully controlled
greenhouse system allows isolation from external contaminants while exploiting the most favourable climate and sunlight conditions of the Mediterranean.
Modern lifestyle Pollution has a great impact on skin cells. Environmental contamination enhances the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which depletes the content of
antioxidants in the skin. This causes disturbance in the redox balance, causing stress to the cells and induces an inflammatory response. The biological function of the cells is altered, resulting in skin lesions and deterioration of skin appearance. At the level of the mitochondria, the process of energy generation (ATP) is modified. The level of ATP decreases while the oxidation cycle of nutrients (glucose, fatty acids and certain amino acids) is changed and many anabolic pathways are disturbed. To counteract pollutant effect and
environmental stress, our Biotechnology Center has developed a new microalgae active, Natura-Tec Marine CellShield AP based on the Pavlova lutheri species (pictured below).This species takes its name from the shape of its cell with two characteristic flagellums and inspired by the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, who performed in the late 18th and early
