Ateca with a great chassis making it one of the more enjoyable SUVs to drive with a distinct sporty fl avour to it. A good interior features decent equipment, and there’s a 510-litre boot. We think it’s one of the best value SUVs on sale today and it compares favourably with the Nissan Qashqai and Hyundai Tucson.

Competition is fi erce in the compact crossover segment, but the SEAT Arona is (rightly) picking up numerous awards. It doesn’t have the most rugged of looks, though; in fact, it’s more like an elevated Ibiza, but opting for a higher specifi cation results in a stylish car with details like a contrasting roof colour. The interior feels spacious thanks to its taller roofl ine and the quality inside is good with equipment such as a large touchscreen display and wireless phone charging available on many models. More importantly, it drives very well, and it is best-matched with the 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. Certainly one of the best cars in its class.

Born out of a project within the Volkswagen Group to create an aff ordable city car, the SEAT Mii is one of three all-but-identical vehicles, sharing much of its mechanicals with the Volkswagen up! and Skoda Citigo. The Mii, though, is strangely the least desirable of the three vehicles, although many will like its typically more generous kit list for the purchase price when compared to the Volkswagen and Skoda cousins. Just one 1.0-litre petrol engine is off ered in the Mii, which has (just) space enough onboard for four adults and a 251-litre boot, too. Exciting, it may not be, but as an aff ordable way of getting around, the Mii is worth a look to see what kind of deals you can get.
