OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Tucson 1.6 Diesel Executive Plus

Hyundai Tucson Since its launch towards the end of 2015, the Hyundai Tucson SUV has consistently been one of the best-selling cars in Ireland - and for good reason. A slightly revised model for 2019 gets minor cosmetic changes and more. While there is a petrol version available, most buyers will opt for

the new 1.6-litre diesel, which is off ered in two- and all-wheel-drive guises. That new engine is smoother and more effi cient and complements what was already a solid package. With many specifi cation grades to choose from, there is a Tucson to suit a wide variety of budgets.

Hyundai i10

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE i10 1.0 Premium

Though Hyundai’s smallest car doesn’t major on the latest technology or an infi nite amount of customisation, it has always been one of our very favourite city cars. That’s partly because of its no-nonsense approach, with a simple interior design, a vaguely cute (but not trying too hard) exterior and a relatively limited range of options in the line-up. Basically, there’s a single 1.0-litre petrol engine and then you choose from three trim levels, one of which can be had with an automatic transmission. The i10 drives well enough and is great in town and in tight confi nes, but the main reason it wins us over is because it has a more spacious interior than most cars in the class, with wide-opening rear doors, too.

Hyundai i20

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE i20 Deluxe Plus 1.2

A facelifted version of the Hyundai i20 supermini has just arrived in Ireland, attempting to add some style to proceedings, with the option of a two-tone paint fi nish, for example. The range will hopefully fi ll out in time, but for now, the only way to get hold of the great turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine is to pair it with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Nothing wrong with that partnership, as such, but it’s pricey – and we’d prefer it with a manual gearbox. The 1.2-litre engine that makes up most of the rest of the range is a little disappointing in comparison. Still, the i20 has always been an impressively spacious vehicle and comes with plenty of equipment as standard. It needs all that to compete in the crowded B-segment, though.
