Fiat Fullback


The market for pickups is on the rise thanks in part to a tightening of the rules on SUV conversions into commercial vehicles. If you think there’s something familiar about the Fiat Fullback, you aren’t wrong. The Italian brand partnered with Mitsubishi to create its version, based on the L200. It’s basically a rebadged vehicle, which is not a bad thing as it is already one of the more capable pickups. Fiat only sells the Fullback as a double cab body with two versions of its 2.4-litre diesel engine. An automatic transmission is available on the more powerful 180hp option. It’s a versatile workhorse and features a good load bay and low-ratio box with a centre diff erential giving it plenty of grip in more challenging conditions.


Fiat Doblo Combi


The only compelling reason to buy the Fiat Doblo Combi that we can see is the usefulness of its sliding rear doors. There are very few cars of this size that come with these and any parent that has had a car with sliding doors will never want to do without them again. They make entry and exit a cinch, even in tight parking spots, and they open up access to the back seats as well, making it easy to lift small kids in and out. The boot of the Doblo is of a decent size, too, though it’s clear that this car is based on a commercial vehicle and its lack of refi nement on the road betrays that fact.

Fiat 500X


Hoping to build upon the success of the popular 500, Fiat’s attempt at a small SUV is the 500X. We reckon that this is currently the best model in Fiat’s range and, for 2019, it gets a series of updates including styling tweaks, more driver assistance systems and an all-petrol engine line-up. As you might expect from an Italian car, it’s agile in town traffi c with light steering and good visibility. There’s a more rugged looking ‘Cross’ version that adds beefed-up bumpers, larger wheels and better equipment inside including a reversing camera. We think it’s one of the most stylish crossovers and comes at a price point that undercuts many of its rivals.
