Peugeot 508 The large family car segment is being constricted by consumers’ almost insatiable appetite for SUVs, but that didn’t stop Peugeot reinventing the 508 in 2018 as a stunning D-segment contender. The Peugeot’s main strength is its appearance, as it’s a glamorous car that was developed from 2014’s gorgeous Exalt concept vehicle, and the trick to the ‘saloon’ version is that it’s not a saloon at all; it’s a fastback, with a large, sloping rear hatch that’s hinged at the roofl ine. For those wanting even more practicality, an elegant SW estate arrives in 2019 and all models use Peugeot’s superb turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The main issue with the 508 is it can be rather expensive, though.

The Peugeot 108 is part of a family of triplets that also includes the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo. Each gets their own unique exterior styling, but under the skin, they’re all mostly the same car. Of the three, it’s actually the Peugeot that we think looks the most attractive, especially if you’re willing to opt for a more vibrant colour. For urban and city driving there is adequate performance on tap and its compact dimensions make it a cinch to squeeze into even the tightest of parking spots. Obviously, that also means it’s a tiny car, so don’t expect to fi t your rugby player friends in the back with much success.

Now only available as a fi ve-door hatchback, the Peugeot 208 is nearing the end of its current model cycle. Nevertheless, it remains one of the better-equipped cars on sale in the segment, a class that includes the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo. Despite now being a bit long in the tooth, it still looks up to date, and it has always been good to drive. In comparison to some of its newer rivals, the 208 doesn’t very roomy inside, and the iCockpit dashboard layout, which includes a smaller-than-average steering wheel so you look over the top of it at the instruments, might not be to everyone’s tastes, although it does work well when you get used to it, even if you do have to adjust your driving position to make sure you can see everything clearly.
