OUR PICK OF THE RANGE CLS 300d AMG Line

Mercedes-Benz CLS Now into its third generation, the Mercedes-Benz CLS is a stylish and more extrovert alternative to a higher-grade E-Class. The sleek shape looks fantastic with an interior that is fi nished to a high standard. Despite being low looking, it doesn’t feel much smaller inside than the E-Class and there is still a useful boot. If you’re seeking the refi nement of a luxury

car but still want to enjoy a sporty driving experience, then the CLS is one to consider. The entry-level diesel engine combined with the AMG Line styling makes for an excellent package, though there are two more powerful diesel engines available in addition to a range of petrol engines that are crowned by the range-topping AMG CLS 53 4Matic.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

The GLA crossover is expected to be replaced or at least signifi cantly updated in 2019. As it stands, it’s the company’s entry-level SUV, though we use that term lightly, as the GLA is more of a rugged and more spacious A-Class than it is a proper off -roader. Saying that, there are four-wheel- drive versions in the price list and depending on how it’s specifi ed, it can look quite chunky. The cabin is spacious and ride comfort notably good, which used to be reason enough to choose the GLA over the A-Class, but the new A-Class’s interior is light years ahead of the GLA’s, instantly dating the latter. It’s probably worth waiting until Mercedes gets around to refreshing this car, in truth.

Mercedes-Benz GLC

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE GLC 250d 4Matic Exclusive

Of all the SUVs that Mercedes-Benz off ers, the GLC is the one that has the most widespread appeal in Ireland. We think it’s one of the best- looking cars in the segment and it has an interior to match, blending useful space with a high-quality fi nish. All versions here get diesel engines with automatic all-wheel-drive transmissions. The GLC 250 d is a complete package, but the entry-level 200 d is perfectly capable, too. There is a fi ve-door GLC Coupe version to rival sportier SUVs like the BMW X4, but apart from the styling diff erences it doesn’t drive all that diff erently to the regular GLC. If you’re in the market for a more raucous SUV, then there are AMG GLC 63 versions of both body styles, delivering blisteringly fast performance for such a car.
