FIAT

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Tipo Hatchback 1.4 120hp Lounge

Fiat Tipo

If you’re looking for a budget C-segment car, the Fiat Tipo off ers a reasonably good value package. You can choose from a selection of three body styles: a fi ve-door hatchback, four-door saloon and fi ve-door estate. Generous boot space and a well-made interior rank

among the positives, and while it doesn’t have the sharpest or most refi ned handling in the class it’s certainly not the worst and features a decent range of engines on off er. If you’re in the market, but on a budget, this is well worth a look in our opinions.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 500 L Cross 1.4

Fiat 500

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 500 Lounge

Even though the Fiat 500 has been around since 2007, receiving only minor cosmetic updates since, it remains one of the most popular and desirable cars in the segment. Its cute styling has won it fans all over the world despite it being small inside with rear seats that are almost unusable by adults. Many other cars in its class drive and handle better too, but these lack the kerbside appeal and general fun that the 500 off ers. For those that love to be seen, there is also a convertible version with a central fabric roof that retracts. Only the one engine is available, a 1.2-litre petrol unit that delivers adequate performance. Best kept for urban driving, the 500 isn’t perfect, but is very charming.

Fiat 500L/500L wagon

Following the success of the little 500, Fiat wanted to create a whole range of other models with tenuous links to the cute supermini. In the case of the 500L and larger seven-seat 500L Wagon, all they have in common is the name. Its bloated looks aren’t quite what you’d call desirable, especially not in the case of the Wagon. Further confusing matters, the 500L is sold as a Cross model, meaning it gets more rugged looking SUV-like bumpers, which is odd considering Fiat already has the 500X in its range. Nevertheless, both the 500L and Wagon do off er a fair degree of space inside, even in the seven-seater, but with so many other more appealing and better-driving options on the market these aren’t class leaders.
