experience. Higher spec models ride on plush air suspension, while the high-capacity battery delivers an offi cial range of 480 kilometres and powerful electric motors give it all-wheel drive. Despite its high weight it’s impressively fast. The I-Pace faces competition coming down the line from other premium brands, but for now, it’s the fi nest electric vehicle on sale in Ireland.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE XE 2.0D 180 PS RWD Auto R-Sport
The four-door Jaguar XE is a sports saloon that was designed to compete head-on with the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and others. It’s a sharp- looking car, especially in the R-Sport trim line, and its rear-drive chassis helps make it as good to drive as most of its rivals. The line-up is wide, kicking off with a 2.0-litre diesel engine in three power outputs. There’s a turbocharged petrol engine in three states of tune as well and a 380hp fl agship powered by a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine shared with the F-Type sports car. Most engines are paired with an automatic transmission and buyers can opt for all-wheel drive with certain cars. Trim levels are Prestige, R-Sport and Portfolio. Our only complaints with the XE are its too-small cabin and lack of refi nement from the diesel engines.

The Jaguar XF is, in our opinions, the best car the company produces. It makes for a classy and subtle alternative to the default German options in the executive saloon sector – models such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. The XF drives as well as any of those, with a supple chassis that also can engage the driver when they’re in the mood. And it deals with poor Irish roads particularly well. The XF is powered by a wide line-up of petrol and diesel engines, kicking off with a 163hp 2.0-litre diesel and culminating in the fun, if rather pointless 380hp XF S range-topper. There’s loads of choice in between in terms of trim levels, power outputs and even the option of all-wheel drive. One thing we’re sure about, though: go for the elegant Sportbrake estate body style over the saloon.
