OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 718 Cayman GTS
Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman The ‘718’ badge is a ‘new’ one for the Porsche world and it is designed to hark back to a historic racing model of the company, which ran on four cylinders. And that’s why the 718 badge was revived, as the most aff ordable Porsches of all are now four-cylinder turbocharged machines. There’s a choice of a 2.0-litre or 2.5-litre horizontally opposed ‘boxer’ motors, with some models (the GTS) delivering 365hp – so performance is exhilarating, even if the four- pot soundtrack is not quite as good as what went before. Choose to have your 718 as a convertible, with the Boxster nameplate, or as a coupe, called the Cayman.

Porsche 911 Porsche’s 911 sports car is nothing short of an automotive icon and it has gently evolved over the course of half a century to culminate in the current 991 generation. This is due to be replaced by a 992 model in 2019, but it’s not simply a case of making one car to satisfy the diehard 911 fans – instead, there are many diff erent performance and body types to refresh. The outgoing 991 has three body styles, which are the Coupe, Cabriolet and the Targa – with an eye-catching part-fi xed roof – while there are versions that go fast, some that go very fast and some that are ridiculously swift. Variants like the Turbo, GT3 (RS) and GT2 RS are all hallowed motoring greats.
