OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 308 Allure 1.2 PureTech 110

Peugeot 3008 Peugeot 308

After many years of lagging behind the opposition with its mainstream off erings, Peugeot seemed to get itself right back on track with the 2013-launched 308 family hatchback. It off ers handsome looks and an interesting interior – it was one of the fi rst models to use Peugeot’s ‘head-up’ iCockpit layout, which necessitates a tiny steering wheel mounted beneath the instrument cluster – along with a spry chassis, good comfort levels and some appealing drivetrains. For fast-car fans, there are warm GT and hot GTi models, while the SW estate version has a class-leading 660-litre boot. Some might not get on with iCockpit and the cabin fi nishing isn’t up to Volkswagen standards, but the 308 is a very strong contender in its class nonetheless.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 3008 1.2 PureTech 130 Automatic Allure

Since its debut as an SUV, the 3008 has quickly become one of Peugeot’s best-selling cars, and it’s easy to see why. The exterior looks very smart, with higher grade models gaining premium-looking two-tone roofs and LED headlights. There are some great styling touches throughout the car, and these extend to the interior where a driver-centric cabin features an all-digital 12.3-inch instrument display and an eight-inch touchscreen. Fit and fi nish is also far better than we’ve previously seen from the French brand. Its 1.6-litre diesel may seem like an obvious choice, but we advise buyers not to dismiss the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while the eight-speed automatic is excellent. At speed, the 3008 is comfortable and refi ned, while it remains very manoeuvrable around town.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE 5008 GT Line 1.5 BlueHDi Automatic

Peugeot 5008 Peugeot 2008

The Peugeot 2008 kick-started the company’s SUV rebirth and while it might look like a jacked-up 208, it is quite well-sorted in the handling stakes. Like the 208 it also features the smaller steering wheel and iCockpit setup, which you quickly acclimatise to. Space- wise, it isn’t too bad, and there’s a 410-litre boot out back, which is great. Both its diesel and petrol engines feature low emissions ratings, too, making them all aff ordable to tax. You do get plenty of bang for your Euro in the 2008, thanks to generous equipment levels, which is an area where Peugeot trumps much of the competition. We like how it looks, too, especially in GT Line specifi cation.

Sitting above the 3008 in Peugeot’s SUV range, the 5008 is similarly styled, but off ers the bonus of seven seats. If you don’t need the rearmost third-row seats, they conveniently fold fl at into the boot fl oor. Three ISOFIX points, including one in the front passenger seat, make this great for those with families of small kids. Up front, the dashboard layout is the same as the 3008’s, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and eight-inch touchscreen. The level of standard equipment is high to start with and moving up through the grades isn’t that expensive either. You get a similar choice of engines as in the 3008, but if you’re likely to be carrying bigger passengers more frequently, you may prefer the more powerful 130hp 1.5-litre BlueHDi diesel engine.
