BMW 2 Series Coupe/Convertible
The 2 Series is BMW’s entry-level sporty range, off ered in two-door Coupe and Convertible body styles. They’re compact cars that seat four (though are best for two) and, confusingly, are nothing at all like the BMW 2 Series Active and Gran Tourers. As with most of BMW’s models, the Coupe and Convertible can be had with a variety of petrol or diesel engines and while most variants send power to the rear wheels, the 2 Series Coupe can be had with xDrive four-wheel drive in 220d guise. All drive well, the Convertible is a classy device and while the M240i is a fabulous all-rounder, it’s usurped in our aff ections by the hardcore M2 Competition.

BMW 4 Series It’s not easy to decide between the two-door 4 Series Coupe and fi ve-door Gran Coupe, as there is no price diff erence between the two. There’s also a Convertible model with a hard folding roof for those who enjoy open-top motoring. Our advice would be to go for the one with extra doors as it’s far more practical without sacrifi cing looks. There are some
lovely petrol versions available like the 440i, though most buyers tend to opt for diesel. Adding the xDrive all-wheel-drive transmission doesn’t mean much more weight or fuel consumption, so it’s well worth considering. Higher performance M4 versions of both the Coupe and Convertible are available, including the fi nely-honed CS model.
