OUR PICK OF THE RANGE DS 7 Crossback BlueHDi 180 Automatic

DS 7 Crossback The DS 7 Crossback is the brand’s fi rst model that didn’t initially start as a Citroen and is hoping to take on established upmarket rivals from Audi, BMW and Volvo. Its upmarket looks are backed up by an interior that is roomy and nicely designed. Modern touches like a widescreen infotainment display and digital instrument

cluster contrast with leather upholstery to give it a premium feel inside. One of the DS7 Crossback’s trick features is a camera- based suspension system that scans the road ahead and adjusts in real-time to compensate for bumps, resulting in a very comfortable ride. It certainly makes for an interesting newcomer to the market.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE DS 5 Prestige BlueHDi 180 EAT6

DS 4/DS 4 Crossback

This car can’t be much longer for this world – and in truth, we’ve never been fans. The DS 4 started life as an unusual mix of SUV and coupe, with a fi rm and sporty chassis that just doesn’t fi t with the DS image. In the middle of its life, the line-up was divided into regular hatch and Crossback crossover, but it’s hopelessly outclassed by the cars DS has priced it to compete with. Sure, it can look good in certain colours and specifi cations and sure, it is powered by a decent range of petrol and diesel engines, but really, we’d struggle to recommend it. Look at it as a piece of the DS history rather than any pointer to the brand’s luxury-oriented future.

DS 5

It’s safe to say that the DS 5 looks like nothing else on the road today. The elegant design makes it stand out, and we like it for that. Despite its sleekness, it isn’t the most comfortable car to drive, with an overly fi rm ride detracting from comfort levels. When you sit inside the well-appointed cabin, you do wonder where all that space went as it feels cramped up front, with rear passengers not faring much better. Functionality aside, there are some wonderful design touches throughout such as a split glass roof, bespoke switchgear and ‘watchstrap’ leather seats, though it is missing essential items like proper cupholders. The DS 5 should be a great car, but we think it’s just too fl awed to make for a sensible purchase.
