Proving that SEAT is on something of a roll when it comes to churning out top-rate models lately, the Arona has rightly got some other brands looking over their shoulders. This stylish compact crossover packages decent passenger and boot space into a design that is appealing and underpins it all with a superb little chassis that instils a fun-to-drive nature often lacking in this segment. The 150hp 1.5-litre petrol engine makes the Arona feel quite brisk and isn’t much more expensive than the 115hp 1.0-litre TSI engine. Either suit the car nicely, especially if you’re an urban dweller. Smart connectivity options inside and attractive exterior styling packs, including contrasting roof colours, make this one of the more appealing models in its class, and we think it’s undoubtedly one the best to drive.

SEAT Ateca
Despite being on sale for four years, the SEAT Ateca remains one of the most attractive designs in the SUV segment, even if some elements of the interior do feel a little on the cheap side, mostly in the rear. Nevertheless, the Ateca still makes for an ideal family car due to its interior space and a practical 510-litre boot. It is available with front- or all-wheel drive and comes with a choice of diesel and petrol engines, though our preference would be to stick with front-wheel drive and a petrol engine, namely the 150hp 1.5-litre TSI option. The FR models drop the black body cladding in favour of colour-coded trim to emphasise its more road-focused sportiness. All versions of the Ateca are more fun to drive than other more popular models like the Kia Sportage and Nissan Qashqai, while its keen pricing makes this one of the better value buys in the segment.

SEAT Tarraco
The Tarraco is the third and largest model to join SEAT’s SUV line-up, and it completes the range sitting at the top of the pile. The option of seven seats and all-wheel drive give it plenty of appeal for families, and its keen pricing gives it a strong sense of value for money over other rivals. Just like the other models in the SEAT range, the Tarraco provides a driving experience that feels more agile and sportier than the nom. A simple product off ering sees two specifi cation grades with either 1.5 TSI petrol or 2.0 TDI diesel engines. The slick-shifting automatic transmission is well worth the money, too. On the practical side, if you go for the fi ve-seat version, the boot capacity is a generous 720 litres, while adding the third row of seats sees this drop to 230 litres with all seats in use.
