BMW 3 Series
This latest version of the BMW 3 Series is easily the best yet and its exterior design should turn plenty of heads in the offi ce car park. Along with the latest in connectivity, there are high-tech digital displays and a nifty virtual assistant to get used to, not to mention a raft of useful driver assistance features. Don’t worry

though, it’s still every bit the driver’s car the 3 Series is known for, with an excellent chassis that shines through on even the more sensible versions. Rear- and all- wheel drive is available in addition to a plug-in hybrid variant and sportier M340i xDrive model. And let’s not forget the even more elegant looking Touring estate.

BMW 1 Series
BMW diehards and driving enthusiasts won’t be happy about the fact that the brand-new 1 Series has adopted a front-wheel-drive platform. However, most buyers of the 1 Series really don’t care which end of the car the power goes to, so the decision was made to reduce costs and free up interior and boot space. That’s where the new car certainly beats its predecessor – along with more technology than before of course, plus enhanced quality and refi nement. Think of it as a rival to the incoming Volkswagen Golf 8, the ageing Audi A3 and the Mercedes A-Class. In fact, the 1 Series is better as an everyday model, such as the 118d or 120i, then it is in range-topping M135i format. The latter uses xDrive all-wheel drive to cope with the considerable power output, but it’s not the most exciting performance car in BMW’s extensive canon of products.

BMW 2 Series Gran/Active Tourer
The 2 Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer are fi ve- and seven-seat MPVs respectively that buck the BMW design trend. Favouring functionality over form, these front- or all-wheel-drive models are pitched at families and rival several similarly styled mainstream competitors. The lure of the BMW badge and the higher quality interiors may lure some who aren’t convinced by the multitude of SUVs on sale. BMW off ers a good range of specifi cation grades along with diesel and petrol engines with automatic and manual gearboxes and even all-wheel drive. Furthermore, there is also a plug-in hybrid model that can cover up to 41 kilometres solely on battery power.
