Renault Zoe

The Renault Zoe has progressively been improving every few years. For 2020 the company has a heavily reworked model that gains exterior styling updates, a much-needed interior revamp and yet another jump in battery performance. Renault off ers the Zoe with two electric motor options in the guise of the 108hp R110 and 135hp R135. The 52kWh battery is now rated to cover up to 395 kilometres on a single charge, and buyers of the R135 model also

benefi t from the inclusion of a 50kW CCS-type rapid charger that makes faster recharges, especially on motorway routes, that bit easier. Higher-spec models get a stylish 9.3-inch portrait-style infotainment system that gives the little Renault a more modern feel inside. It may be one of the smaller EVs on the market, but the Renault Zoe is one of the most relevant. Not only is it pleasant to drive, the car now gets one of the most effi cient battery setups currently available.

RChoiceecommended Editor’s Renault Clio

The Renault Clio has enjoyed a steady stream of success in Ireland thanks mainly to its stylish looks and aff ordability. This year sees the arrival of a new fi fth-generation Clio and, while its outward appearance may not seem all that diff erent from its predecessor’s, inside, there are some more major changes. With buyer expectations only ever going one way, Renault has sought to add a more upmarket look and feel to the interior of the Clio, with snazzy items such as a 9.3-inch portrait-style infotainment display. The sporty RS-Line version gets a 1.3-litre petrol engine and does look good, but doesn’t ride as well as other models in the line-up. The 1.0-litre petrol engine has adequate performance in 100hp guise and is sweet to drive. Our advice is to spend more on getting the highest equipment grade.

88 Auto Ireland Guide to New Cars 2020 Renault Megane

The Renault Megane has always been a ‘middle of the pack’ kind of car, but the current generation is much nearer the head of the fi eld. It comes in three body styles, which are the regular hatchback, the estate Sport Tourer and the saloon Grand Coupe. All three have a straightforward trim hierarchy of Play, Iconic and then GT Line, while engines are pretty much limited to a 140hp 1.33-litre petrol or a 115hp 1.5-litre diesel, which can each be paired to either a manual or EDC twin-clutch automatic gearbox. On top of all this is the Renault Sport Megane, a hot hatch with at least 280hp, four-wheel steering and blistered arches, but if you don’t need ridiculous performance then the regular range will suffi ce just fi ne. Pick of the bunch is the Sport Tourer with the smooth 1.33-litre turbo petrol engine and a manual gearbox.
