Dacia Logan MCV Dacia sells its budget family estate car in two varieties – the plain Logan MCV, which stands for Maximum Capacity Vehicle, and then an off -road- styled version called the Logan MCV Stepway. All the latter adds is some body addenda and a higher ride height, but as it’s not too much extra to buy and it off ers the better choice of turbocharged engines than the regular MCV, it’s the one to go for.

The interior of the Logan is sparsely equipped and features very basic plastics and fi nishing, but it’s incredibly roomy, has a colossal 573-litre boot and it’s a reliable, simple car. It drives in an accomplished but unexciting fashion, with a little more road roar and wind noise than you’d fi nd in more expensive rivals, yet its ride quality is excellent, and the controls/visibility make it an easy car to drive.

Dacia Sandero
Dacia understands that not everybody craves cutting-edge design or plush, sumptuous interiors, which is why its Sandero makes for such a good package. The fi ve-door hatchback is one of the most aff ordable new cars on sale at present and off ers decent space and drive that gives little cause for complaint when you consider the whole package. To keep things simple Dacia off ers only two specifi cation grades, with the higher Signature version featuring a seven-inch touchscreen with navigation and cruise control. There is one diesel and one petrol engine available, both paired with manual gearboxes. Neither is all that fast, although either should prove economical to run. There is also a more crossover- themed version called the Sandero Stepway. It remains front-wheel drive but does get chunkier looks and is also available with a sweeter 90hp petrol engine.

Dacia Duster
The Dacia Duster has fast become a household name and one of the most recognisable SUVs on the market. Over the years it has gradually evolved, now looking more modern without losing any of its rugged charm. Crucially, it remains one of the most aff ordable SUVs on sale even when you get up to the top-spec version. The choice of petrol and diesel engines, along with four-wheel drive in the latter, means there’s a Duster to suit almost everyone’s needs. It’s rugged enough to cope with the worst roads in Ireland yet has enough comfort for easy everyday commuting. Better quality materials inside still don’t rival more expensive brands, though the Duster has come a long way in a few short years and from a value-for-money perspective this is one car that’s hard to beat.
