KIA IS SOMETHING MISSING?
The Kia Stinger is due a round of revisions for 2020.
OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Ceed 1.0 TGI GT Line
Kia Ceed
The Kia Ceed is no longer purely a value- based alternative in the highly competitive hatchback market; it now seriously rivals established players like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf for both design and quality. Kia off ers the Ceed as a fi ve-door hatchback or a large estate called the Sportswagon. A 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is both

refi ned and suffi ciently powerful for the Ceed’s size, while a more powerful 1.4-litre option is available in the sportier GT line specifi cation, featuring a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There’s a 1.6-litre diesel engine for those who prefer it. Regardless of the engine you choose, the Ceed is one of the nicest cars to drive in the sector.
OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Rio 1.2 MPI 84 K2
Kia Picanto
The Picanto may be Kia’s smallest car, but it retains just as much attention to detail in its design and quality of fi nish as the rest of the vehicles in the range. Its characterful look helps it stand out a bit from its rivals. The base 1.0-litre petrol engine gets 67hp and, while not especially powerful, it does get the job done. If you’re likely to take on motorway driving more frequently, then the 84hp 1.2-litre engine will better serve you and is also available with the option of an automatic gearbox. Our choice would be to stick with the manual and spend the little bit extra in upgrading to the GT Line version. For city and urban driving, the Picanto is one of the better models in this segment.

Kia Rio
Kia’s Rio launched way back in 1999 and has always been a cheap-and-cheerful alternative to the mainstream supermini elite – but the fourth- generation car, which launched in 2017, has moved much, much closer to the class leaders in terms of its overall appeal and quality. It is sold here with just one engine, an 84hp 1.25-litre MPI petrol unit without a turbo, and mated to a fi ve-speed gearbox, so its drivetrain is a little behind the curve, while its chassis is nothing to write home about. But smart looks, a spacious cabin, a well-stocked and attractive interior, good levels of ride comfort and noise suppression and, of course, Kia’s seven-year warranty, all make the Rio a tempting proposition. Spec it as a more luxurious K2 for the best possible ownership experience.
