Ford Mustang Mach-E Headlining Ford’s offering for 2020 is


the Mustang Mach-E, a powerful all-electric SUV that takes styling cues from the legendary Mustang line. Pricing is set to start at about €50,000, so if your budget is rather more modest, then perhaps instead look to the next-generation Ford Kuga. There won’t be an all-electric model, but there will be a plug-in hybrid. Smaller again, though arguably just as appealing, is the new Ford Puma. It’s a stylish and sporty-looking small crossover. While not oozing quite as much sex


appeal, Honda’s new Jazz supermini has taken a step in the right direction for the Japanese company, and it will be focusing on an efficient hybrid powertrain. Going further again is the small Honda e, the company’s first electric car, though we don’t know if many will reach Irish shores before 2021. New from Hyundai in 2020 is a


good-looking redesign for the evergreen i10, the company’s smallest car.


Both the Jaguar F-Pace SUV and


F-Type sports car ranges will be revamped for the 2020 model year, while the aging XJ luxury saloon may be replaced by an all-electric alternative. One of the most talked about new cars of next year is the replacement for the iconic


Land Rover Defender. It’s not quite as utilitarian as before, but possibly will appeal to a wider market. It will be complemented in the Land Rover showrooms by the revamped Discovery Sport model. Mazda being Mazda, its first ever electric


car, called the MX-30, will be far from conventional. It’s a quirky small crossover with rear-opening back doors and a not especially long range between charges, yet the promise of an engaging driving experience. It looks to be a crazy year for new


Mercedes launches in 2020. One of the most important cars for the brand will be the new GLB, a compact SUV that somehow


squeezes seven seats into its frame. Its sportier alter-ego will be the next-generation Mercedes GLA, but likely to grab more headlines will be the similarly sized EQA, an electric crossover. Although it has not been confirmed by


Nissan, we expect to see the first shots of an all-new Qashqai before the end of 2020. Along with the first-ever electric Opel (the


Corsa-e), next year we should witness the reinvention of the Mokka X crossover. Electrification is the name of the game at


Peugeot for 2020, as well. Most of its larger cars will get a plug-in hybrid option, while the


e-208 supermini arrives. That will all be followed by a stylish new Peugeot 2008 crossover, which will also be offered in all-electric e-2008 format. Hot on the heels of Porsche’s first electric


car, the Taycan, will be another, this time with off-road-inspired design. It’s likely to be called the Taycan Cross Turismo. Traditional Porsche fans will be glad to know that there’s also a new GT3 version of the current 911 in the pipeline. Using the underpinnings of the new


Volkswagen Golf will be a brand-new SEAT Leon, while the Spanish company’s first electric car (possibly to be called the ‘El-Born’) will be made on the same platform as the VW ID.3. We’d expect to see both in 2020. Skoda will also use the Volkswagen Group


electric car platform to create a spacious new EV in 2020, though just as important right now is its new Octavia. It has just been revealed, with Skoda Superb-like design and even more space than before, plus it will be offered as a plug-in hybrid. Big news at Toyota next year comes in


Peugeot 2008


small packages, in the shape of a new Yaris supermini. It looks better than ever and apparently will be offered in a seriously sporty guise to reflect Toyota’s involvement in the World Rally Championship, plus of course as a rather more prosaic hybrid model. Volkswagen has two very important new


cars set to arrive in Ireland soon. The eighth generation of the Golf needs no introduction, though its existence is overshadowed a little by the funky new ID.3 electric car. Speaking of which, Volvo’s first electric


car has been revealed, the XC40 Recharge. Expect an all-new interpretation of the V40 to rear its head as well. AI
