Alfa Romeo IS SOMETHING MISSING?

Both the Alfa Romeo 4C sports car and the Mito hatchback have been discontinued.

Alfa Romeo Giulia Alfa Romeo is a company with a long and enviable history, but since the 1970s it hasn’t managed to compete at the forefront of the classes it competed in. However, all that changed in 2015, when ‘Project Giorgio’ (which is the name of the chassis involved here) was announced – and the fi rst product spun off it was the gorgeous Giulia saloon. It comes with a choice of a 160- or 190hp 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines, or a pair of

Alfa Romeo Stelvio

After the Giulia, the next product to sit on the Giorgio chassis was the Stelvio. It is a mid-sized premium SUV, designed to compete with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Lexus NX, Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace and Volvo XC60. Although some models of Stelvio (named after the famous mountain pass in northern Italy, very close to Switzerland) are rear-wheel drive, in the main the SUV has Q4 all-wheel drive, nowhere more notably so than on the range-topping Quadrifoglio variant, which share’s the Giulia’s monster 510hp V6. Again, though, the Stelvio off ers the 2.2-litre turbodiesel (here with either 190- or 210hp), and then the 200/280hp variations of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder. It’s the last of these, badged the Veloce that we think gives the best balance between aff ordability and proper Alfa driving manners, and – like the Giulia – a 2020MY update improved the Stelvio’s cabin fi nishing and infotainment to a notable degree.

OUR PICK OF THE RANGE Giulia Quadrifoglio

2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder units, with either 200- or 280hp. All are brilliant, although the interior fi nishing can be a bit patchy (a 2020MY update improved certain areas, though), but the shining star here is the most expensive Giulia – the Quadrifoglio supersaloon. With a 510hp Ferrari-derived biturbo V6 petrol engine and the rear-wheel drive chassis, this is one of the best performance cars you could hope to drive.
