Audi A7 It’s best to think of the A7 Sportback as a sporty looking version of the Audi A8, as it shares a lot with the more sedate four-door saloon. Naturally, that means its engines and wealth of on-board technology, but it also hints at the way the A7 drives. You see, despite appearances, the A7 Sportback is a luxury car, not a particularly sporty one to drive. Don’t be disappointed, though, as it’s highly impressive and, though the A7 doesn’t deign to involve

the driver in things, it’s competent and quick whenever you need it to be. The regular V6 TDI diesel models, with up to 286hp (all use an automatic gearbox and quattro four-wheel drive), are fast enough for most, but we particularly like the S7 variant, which gets an extra ‘turbo’ powered by electricity and a 48- volt mild hybrid system to deliver 349hp and huge amounts of torque. The S7 also looks even more special than the rest of the A7 line-up.

Audi Q3 Audi Q2
It may be the smallest of Audi’s ‘Q’ range of crossovers and SUVs, but the Q2 isn’t lacking in style. Clearly pitched at younger buyers (or at least those young at heart), the Q2 is packed with versatile features and off ers more space inside than you might expect from a car of its size. An elevated driving position adds to the Q2’s appeal. On top of all that there are plenty of ways to customise the exterior, though you’ll need to spend big on some of the exclusive paints to fi nd the more vibrant options. Both diesel and petrol engines produce the same 116hp output, though the latter is the sweeter of the two to drive, especially if you’re mostly sticking to urban roads.
16 Auto Ireland Guide to New Cars 2020
SUV buyers that are in the market for an alternative to the likes of the Range Rover Evoque or Volvo XC40 should stop off at their local Audi dealer for a look at the Q3 model. The second generation of this spacious car launched in late 2018 and it’s still fresh looking, but the big news this year is the arrival of a sportier variant, called the Q3 Sportback. Despite a sloping roofl ine and a generally more attractive appearance, the Sportback isn’t massively less practical, so we reckon it’s the choice of the range. Both cars drive in a similar manner (i.e. competent, comfortable and refi ned rather than massively interesting) and get almost all the same engine options. Money-no-object, we’d go for a quattro-equipped model, but most buyers won’t need four-wheel drive. Also, petrol power suits the Q3 so think long and hard about whether you need the diesel engine’s high-mileage economy.
