Audi A5 A refreshed A5 range for 2020 ushers in sharpened styling and some more distinctive colours, while its engine range becomes an all ‘mild hybrid’ aff air, similar to the cars further up the Audi range. But for 2020, the Cabriolet will no longer form part of the A5 range in Ireland. In its Teutonic battle with its BMW and Mercedes- Benz rivals, the A5 hasn’t always been the most engaging to drive though it is very refi ned. Building on its already very premium interior, Audi is adding a new infotainment system featuring a large 10.1-inch touchscreen display, in addition to a 12.3-inch digital instrument pack. If you regularly carry more than one passenger, then the fi ve-door Sportback makes far more sense than the two-door Coupe, without having to sacrifi ce much on style. Powering most of the range are diesel engines, which now have modest electrifi cation. Diesel is also utilised for the sporty S5 models, though the expected RS 5 range-toppers stick with petrol power.

Audi A6 You’d be forgiven for mistaking the Audi A6 for its limousine big brother, the A8, as it’s a classy and imposing machine with a lot of presence. The front end is dominated by a very large radiator grille and the rear by a chrome strip joining the lights (it can be had in a more sultry black fi nish) and there are loads of other details to pore over. The A6 Avant estate is even more impressive to our eyes. Inside, technology dominates. Well, it does if you tick the box market ‘Virtual Cockpit’, as that adds digital instruments to the cabin. Showroom appeal aside, the A6 impresses on the road thanks to a polished all-round competency. It may not be as engaging to drive as a BMW 5 Series, but it is quieter. There is a petrol engine option, but diesel power still dominates this class, and most A6 models use quattro four-wheel drive, too.
