On our twin-centre trip we explore the delights of two quite contrasting, and little-known regions of rural Spain and Portugal on foot, bicycle and by canoe. We include several easy activities, though more strenuous options are available locally if you prefer. Alternatively, take it easy and enjoy the lovely surrounding countryside. Our accommodation has been carefully selected to ensure a combination of comfort, local character and location.


ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Seville. Travel to Castano del Robledo village – our base for the first 4 nights. Day 2 Walking Follow ancient drovers’ trails to Aracena – famous for its imposing citadel. Day 3 Cycling Pedal along well-marked trails, passing white-washed villages and beautiful countryside. Day 4 Horseriding Enjoy a free day to go horse riding or visit Seville. Day 5 Portugal Cross the border to the walled-town of Mertola – our base for the last 3 nights. Day 6 Canoeing Paddle down the Guadiana River to Mertola. Day 7 Guadiana Valley Natural Park A free day to explore the park or relax in Mertola. Day 8 Drive to Seville and fly to the UK.

Ride with us on scenic dedicated cycle paths from the foothills of the Pyrénées to the Mediterranean coast. We pedal through northern Spain’s volcanic countryside and ancient walled villages to the port town of Sant Feliu du Guixos. We also stroll through the Ramblas in Barcelona, explore the medieval back-streets in Girona and enjoy some delicious Catalan cuisine.

Day 4 Girona Follow the gentle greenway trail to the Roman town. Roam through the medieval back-streets and climb the city walls for views of the old quarter. Cycling Detail: The cycling element of this trip covers 164kms over 4 days (an average of 41kms a day) and further optional rides are available. We follow undemanding and quiet converted railway tracks and some quiet country roads. There are 2 days with a little ascent (140-220m) and 1 day with a 390m ascent. 85% converted railway or paths; 15% tarmac roads. Maps will be provided for cyclists to travel individually or in groups. We have graded this trip as ‘easy to moderate’.
